The Konpon Chu-do Hall, located at the entrance of the Yamadera temple complex, is a must-see. Rebuilt in 1356, it's one of Japan's oldest beechwood structures and a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. Inside, you can view the "Eternal Light of the Law," a flame brought from Enryaku-ji Temple and later returned after Enryaku-ji's reconstruction. Don't miss the wooden Yakushi Nyorai statue and the Hotei statue near the offering box. It's a 10-minute walk from Yamadera Station or a 40-minute bus ride from Yamagata Station.
