Located within the Kashinozaki Lighthouse grounds on the eastern edge of Kii-Oshima Island, the Kashinozaki Lighthouse Former Residence is a registered tangible cultural property offering a glimpse into the Meiji era. Built in 1870 by British engineer Richard Henry Brunton, this stone structure once housed lighthouse keepers and played a crucial role in the rescue efforts during the 1890 Ertuğrul frigate disaster. Visitors can explore the restored interior for a small fee (¥100) and learn about its history. Open on weekends and holidays, it provides a unique historical experience alongside the lighthouse visit. Note that the building may be closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
