Explore the historic Chinen Castle Ruins in Nanjo, Okinawa, featuring beautiful stone arch gates mentioned in the "Omoro Sōshi" poems. Wander through the grounds to discover remnants of the castle and enjoy scenic views. Outside the castle walls, find traditional Okinawan homes and the Ufakaru spring, considered the birthplace of rice cultivation, along with the Chinen Aji tomb. Note that the path to Ufakaru and the tomb may be overgrown and slippery. The site is free to enter and offers a glimpse into Ryukyu history. Best visited during the cooler months, allow about an hour to explore the castle and its surroundings.
