Shōyama-ji Temple, the 12th temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, is steeped in legend and founded by Kobo Daishi. Legend says Kobo Daishi defeated a giant serpent causing natural disasters, renaming the burned mountain to "Shōyama-ji." The temple is known as one of the most challenging on the pilgrimage. The temple gate is lined with old cedar trees, welcoming visitors to explore the serene atmosphere. Located in Kamiyama, Tokushima, it's accessible by bus and car from Tokushima Station. Founded between 824 and 833 AD, it offers a spiritual experience amidst nature.
