Explore the historic Shōzui Castle Ruins, once a vital stronghold during the Kamakura and Sengoku periods. Founded by Ogasawara Nagakiyo, it later served as the residence of the Miyoshi clan. Today, visitors can see the well-preserved main enclosure surrounded by inner moats and the graves of the three generations of the Miyoshi clan. Located just a 5-minute walk from Shōzui Station, the site offers a glimpse into medieval Japan. While the castle structures are minimal, the surrounding moats and the adjacent Kenshō-ji Temple, which houses the Miyoshi family graves, provide historical context. Visit the Shōzui Castle Historical Museum to learn more about the castle's history and see excavated artifacts. Best visited during the day to fully appreciate the grounds.
