The Former Kyorakukan, built in 1917 by the Hitachi Mine, is a large wooden structure inspired by Tokyo's Kabukiza and Imperial Theater. Once a cultural hub for Hitachi's employees and residents, hosting kabuki, sumo wrestling, movies, and exhibitions, it's now registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property. Located in Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture, it's a 5-minute drive from the Joban Expressway's Hitachi Chuo Interchange or a 15-minute bus ride from JR Hitachi Station. While currently used as a martial arts hall, its impressive architecture makes it worth a visit. Note that renovations may alter its appearance.
