Mount Showa is one of the newest volcanoes of the 20th century, formed from 1943 to 1945. Though still active with visible gas emissions, it's gradually shrinking due to cooling and erosion. Rising to a height of 398 meters, this unique volcano is privately owned, making it a rare case worldwide. While entry is prohibited, visitors can view Mount Showa from designated areas. Located in Sobetsu, Hokkaido, it's accessible by car from Date Monbetsu Station or by bus from Toyako Onsen Bus Terminal (limited service from April to October). There is a parking fee to view the mountain.
[Size] Elevation: 398m (Initially 407m, but has shrunk due to the subsidence of magma activity.)
