Located in front of Ōgoe Station on the JR Ban'etsu East Line, the Onigorō and Hatagorō Bronze Statues commemorate a local legend. According to the explanatory plaque, Onigorō, the elder brother, fought against Sakagami Tamuramaro during his campaign to conquer the Emishi people in the Heian period and was defeated, earning the name "Oni" (demon). His surviving younger brother, Hatagorō, devoted himself to the area and helped develop it into a prosperous village. While the statues and explanatory sign may appear neglected, they offer a glimpse into the region's history. Nearby, you can also find the "Entertainment Hall" built in the Taisho era, reflecting Ōgoe's past importance.
