Jonenji Temple

Overview

Jonenji Temple, located in Murakami's Teramachi district, is a Jodo sect temple known for its unique white-walled, warehouse-style main hall, which is the largest of its kind in Japan and designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The temple is also famous for being visited by the poet Basho during his travels. Visitors can admire the impressive architecture, including a 5-meter tall Amida Nyorai statue inside the main hall. A large ginkgo tree provides beautiful autumn foliage. The temple is easily accessible and offers a serene atmosphere for exploration.
