The Daio-sugi, or Great King Cedar, is a magnificent Yakusugi cedar located on Yakushima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture. Situated along the trail to Jomon Sugi after Wilson's Stump, this ancient tree stands approximately 25 meters tall and has an estimated age of over 3,000 years. Until the discovery of Jomon Sugi in 1966, it was considered the largest Yakusugi on the island. While the Jomon Sugi cannot be approached closely, the Daio-sugi offers an up-close view of its impressive size and grandeur. The best time to visit is during the day as part of your trek to Jomon Sugi.
