Overview

The Jukyusha Honden, located within Izumo Grand Shrine, is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. These long, simple structures on the east and west sides of the main hall serve as lodgings for the myriad gods who gather at Izumo during the Kamiari Festival in October. Each building has nineteen doors, which are opened only during this special time.
