Explore the Usui Sekisho Remains, a historic checkpoint established in 1623 by Tokugawa Hidetada. Located in Yokokawa, it served as a crucial point on the Nakasendo highway, similar to the Hakone checkpoint on the Tokaido, controlling the passage of "entering firearms and exiting women." Today, the restored gate and museum offer a glimpse into the Edo period. The site is a short 5-minute walk from JR Yokokawa Station or a 10-minute drive from the Matsuida Myogi IC. Visit the East Gate, partially restored with original materials, and learn about the checkpoint's role at the nearby Usui Sekisho Museum. Best visited during the day to explore the grounds and exhibits.
