Jokenji Temple, founded in 1490, is located in Tono, Iwate Prefecture, and is known for its connection to the Kappa legend. Adjacent to Kappa Pool, the temple features unique Kappa-themed komainu (guardian dog statues) with dishes on their heads. Visitors often stop by while exploring Kappa Pool. The temple also houses impressive wooden Niō statues at the entrance. It's a historical and interesting temple to visit when exploring Tono's folklore. Allow about 30 minutes to see the temple grounds and the Kappa statues.
