Tozawa Shrine, located within Mogami Park on the grounds of Shinjō Castle, is dedicated to the Tozawa clan, former lords of the Shinjō domain. Founded in 1893, the shrine honors Tozawa Hidemori, the clan's founder, and Tozawa Masamori, the lord who relocated from Kakunodate to Shinjō. Visitors can explore the serene grounds, admire the traditional architecture, and learn about the history of the Tozawa clan. The shrine is easily accessible, about a 15-minute walk from Shinjō Station, making it a convenient stop while exploring the park and other nearby attractions like Gokoku Shrine and Shinjō Tenmangu. The best time to visit is during the autumn foliage season for stunning red and green contrasts, or during the cherry blossom season in spring.
