Kumanoyu Hotaru Onsen, located in Shiga Kogen, is a hidden gem near the popular pond circuit course, offering stunning views of Shibike Pond reflecting Mt. Yokote, the alpine moor of Shijuhachiike, and the cobalt blue Onuma Pond. The onsen's name, Hotaru (firefly), comes from its proximity to Genji firefly habitats. Visitors can explore the source of the hotaru onsen along Route 292, where steam rises from the ground. While the onsen itself is part of the Kumanoyu Hotel, the surrounding area offers a chance to witness the natural beauty of Shiga Kogen and, if lucky, spot some fireflies in the summer months. It's easily accessible from the Shiga-Kusatsu Highland Route.
