Matsushima Museum

Overview

Located in Matsushima, the Matsushima Museum, adjoined to Kanrantei, showcases artifacts from the Date family, marine specimens from Matsushima Bay, and archaeological materials. Kanrantei, also known as the Moon-Viewing Pavilion, was originally a part of Fushimi Castle gifted to Date Masamune by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It was later moved to its current location, offering stunning views of Matsushima Bay. Visitors can enjoy matcha tea while taking in the scenery. The museum and pavilion are easily accessible, a short walk from Matsushima-Kaigan Station. Open during the day, it's a great place to appreciate the history and beauty of Matsushima.
