Kasuga Shrine

Overview

Kasuga Shrine, the guardian shrine of Seki swordsmiths, was founded in the Kamakura period by swordsmiths who migrated from Yamato and enshrined a divided spirit of Kasuga Taisha. Located in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, it's a 5-minute walk from the Hamono Kaikan Mae Station on the Nagaragawa Railway. The shrine features nationally important cultural properties such as Noh costumes and masks, which are occasionally displayed during special events like the Cutlery Festival. Visitors can also see a rare drum tower instead of a bell tower, a Noh stage, and a large ginkgo tree. It's conveniently located next to the Seki Swordsmith Museum, making it easy to explore both attractions.
