Hikone Castle

Overview

Hikone Castle, a symbol of Hikone and one of only five national treasure castles in Japan, boasts a majestic three-layered keep. Explore its well-preserved grounds, including the Tenbin Yagura and Taiko-mon Yagura, and experience seasonal beauty with cherry blossoms, lush greenery, autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes. Built over 20 years starting in 1604 by the Ii clan, the castle features a moat ingeniously utilizing Lake Biwa's water.
