The Earthquake Remains: Kadonowaki Elementary School in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, stands as a stark reminder of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. Preserved in its damaged state, the school offers a poignant look at the disaster's impact, including the devastating fires caused by the tsunami. Visitors can observe the ruined classrooms and learn about the evacuation efforts that saved the students and teachers. Located near the Ishinomaki Minamihama Tsunami Reconstruction Memorial Park, the site is accessible by car from Ishinomaki Station. Open from 9:00 to 17:00, it's closed on Mondays (except holidays) and during the New Year period. Special opening days are held on the 11th of each month, June 12, September 1, and November 5.
