The Maruoka Domain Battery Site, located in Mikunicho Kaji, Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, is a nationally designated historic site offering a glimpse into Japan's coastal defenses during the late Edo period. Constructed in 1852 by the Maruoka Domain, the battery features a 33-meter long stone wall with five gun emplacements facing the Sea of Japan. While the site itself is somewhat understated, the well-preserved remains provide a tangible connection to the past. Visitors can explore the area via a 500-meter walking path along the coast. The site is located a short drive from Tojinbo and offers free parking and restroom facilities.
