The Sakushu Joto Residence, located in the Joto district of Tsuyama, Okayama, is a beautifully restored traditional Machiya (townhouse) that once served as an educational institution from 1875 onwards. Situated along the historic Izumo Kaido road, this free rest area offers visitors a glimpse into the Edo period with its preserved architecture and cultural exhibits, including a Danjiri (festival float) display. Conveniently accessible by car from the Tsuyama IC (10 minutes) or a 20-minute walk from JR Tsuyama Station, it's an ideal starting point for exploring the charming Joto preservation district. Don't miss the stunning fusuma paintings by local artist Kono Ban and the monument commemorating the filming location of the final "Otoko wa Tsurai yo" (Tora-san) movie. Open daily except Wednesdays, from 9:00 to 17:00.
