Akashi-ji Temple, the 43rd temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, is located in the mountains near the Seiyo-Uwa Interchange. The temple grounds are spacious and surrounded by towering cedar and cypress trees. Don't miss the impressive Niomon gate and the main hall with its ceiling covered in ema (votive tablets). The temple also features a pair of towering "married couple" cedar trees. The temple is home to the Prefectural Important Cultural Property, the "Color on Silk Kumano Mandala," dating back to the 14th-15th centuries. The temple is a short 8-minute drive from Unomachi Station or 5 minutes from the Seiyo Uwa IC.
