Located on Mount Iimoriyama in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, the Monument Donated by the City of Rome is a unique historical marker gifted in 1928. The monument, featuring a bronze eagle atop a column, was presented by Rome in recognition of the Bushido spirit of the Byakkotai. The column itself is said to be from an ancient temple discovered in the ruins of Pompeii. While visiting Iimoriyama to see the graves of the Byakkotai, this monument offers an interesting glimpse into the international recognition of their story. It's best viewed during the afternoon when visiting the Iimoriyama site.
