Fuji Snowmelt Ponds

Oshino Hakkai, meaning "Eight Seas of Oshino," is a collection of eight pristine spring-fed ponds in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. Formed by snowmelt from Mount Fuji filtering through volcanic rock over decades, these ponds are celebrated for their crystal-clear waters and tranquil beauty. Designated as a Natural Monument and part of the Mount Fuji UNESCO World Heritage Site, the area offers stunning views of Mount Fuji, especially when reflected in the ponds. Surrounding the ponds are traditional thatched-roof houses, local shops, and watermills, providing a glimpse into Japan's rural heritage.
