Wetland Sanctuary

Located just east of Niigata City, Fukushimagata Lagoon is a 260-hectare wetland sanctuary renowned for its rich biodiversity. Home to over 220 bird species—including migratory swans and the rare bean goose—and more than 450 plant varieties, it offers vibrant seasonal displays like spring rape blossoms and summer water lilies. The View Fukushimagata center provides panoramic views and exhibits on the lagoon's ecology and cultural significance. Recognized among Japan's top scenic wetlands, it's a peaceful destination for birdwatching, photography, and nature walks. 3 km from the nearest station: Toyosaka. There are buses from Hayadori as well.
