Hydrangea Temple

Unpenji Temple, the 66th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, sits at 927 meters—making it the highest on the route. Founded by Kūkai, it features a revered Senju Kannon statue and a striking path lined with 500 expressive arhat statues. The temple is known for its seasonal beauty, from hydrangeas to autumn foliage. Visitors can reach it via the Unpenji Ropeway, which offers sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea. It’s a serene mountaintop stop with spiritual and scenic appeal.
