Granite Cliffs

Gōkei Valley is a scenic gorge in Sōja City, carved by the Makidani River, and renowned for its dramatic granite cliffs and vibrant autumn foliage. A 600-meter riverside trail offers an easy hike with photo opportunities, especially during the peak foliage season from early to late November. The area features unique rock formations like Tenbashirayama, Kenbō, and Undadabō, and has been designated a National Site of Scenic Beauty since 1923. Accessible by a 20-minute taxi ride from JR Gōkei Station or 30 minutes from JR Sōja Station, it’s a peaceful alternative to more crowded leaf-viewing spots.
