Sacred Shrine

Ise is home to Ise Jingu, Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrine, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. The shrine is a place of pilgrimage for many Japanese people and is surrounded by serene forests and rivers. The banks of the Miyagawa River, near Ise’s Geku Shrine, are adorned with cherry trees for 1 km, creating a beautiful springtime scene. Known as "a thousand trees at a glance," the park’s lawn area makes it a popular spot for visitors.
