Sacred forest sanctuary

Katori Jingu, located in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, is one of Japan's oldest and most significant Shinto shrines. Established in 643 BC, it serves as the head shrine for over 400 Katori shrines nationwide and is dedicated to Futsunushi-no-Ōkami, the deity of swords and warfare. The shrine's main hall (honden) and two-storied gate (rōmon), both constructed in 1700, are designated Important Cultural Properties. Surrounded by a tranquil forest, Katori Jingu offers a serene atmosphere for visitors seeking spiritual reflection and a connection to Japan's ancient traditions.
