Autumn Zen Brilliance

Eigenji Temple, established in 1361 by Zen master Jakushitsu Genkō, is the head temple of the Eigenji branch of the Rinzai Zen sect. Nestled in the mountains of Higashiōmi, the temple is renowned for its stunning autumn foliage, with approximately 3,000 maple trees transforming the landscape into vibrant hues each November. The temple's main hall, featuring a thatched roof made from Lake Biwa reeds, enshrines the hidden Yotsugi Kannon, associated with prayers for descendants. Visitors can also experience zazen meditation and savor traditional Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, immersing themselves in the temple's serene atmosphere.
