Waterfall Purification

Located in Hakusan City, Shirayama Hime Jinja Shrine is the head shrine of over 3,000 Hakusan shrines across Japan, with a history spanning more than 2,100 years. Dedicated to Kukurihime no Kami, the goddess of matchmaking and harmony, the shrine also enshrines Izanagi and Izanami, the deities of creation. The sacred grounds feature ancient trees, including an 800-year-old cedar and three planted by Emperor Showa, and are traversed by the Omote-sando path lined with zelkova, maple, and cedar trees. Visitors can partake in traditional rituals like misogi (purification under a waterfall) and explore the shrine's treasure hall, which houses important cultural artifacts. Easily accessible from Tsurugi Station via a short bus ride, the shrine offers a serene and spiritually enriching experience.
