Healing Water Temple

Zensuiji, founded in the early 8th century by Empress Genmei, is a historic Tendai Buddhist temple located in Konan, Shiga Prefecture. The temple's main hall (Hondō), completed in 1366, is designated a National Treasure and houses a hidden statue of Yakushi Nyōrai, the Buddha of Healing, carved in 993. The temple's name, meaning "Temple of Efficacious Water," originates from a legend where water from its Momotsute Pond cured Emperor Kanmu's illness. Visitors can explore the temple's serene gardens, including the Momotsute Pond, and view over 30 Buddhist statues, many designated as Important Cultural Properties.
