Coastal Torii

Sakurai Futamigaura, located in Itoshima, Fukuoka, is a sacred coastal site known for its spiritual significance and stunning views. The main feature is the Meoto Iwa, or "Married Couple Rocks," two offshore islets connected by a large shimenawa rope, symbolizing the union of deities. A white torii gate frames the rocks, offering picturesque views, especially during sunrise and sunset. The site is part of Sakurai Shrine, dedicated to gods of purification and marriage, and hosts an annual ceremony for replacing the shimenawa rope.
