Guardian of War

Aburahi Shrine, nestled at the foot of Mt. Aburahi in Koka, Shiga, is a historic Shinto shrine with over 1,100 years of history. Dedicated to the deity Aburahi no Ōkami, it was revered by the Koka samurai as a guardian of war and prosperity. The shrine's architectural ensemble—including the main hall, worship hall, tower gate, and cloisters—dates back to the Muromachi and Momoyama periods and is designated as Important Cultural Properties. Surrounded by ancient trees, including a 750-year-old umbrella pine, the shrine offers a serene atmosphere that changes with the seasons. Its timeless setting has made it a popular location for films and TV dramas.
