Tomonoura, a charming port town in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is known for its scenic harbor and old-fashioned fishing village atmosphere. Once a hub for merchant ships during the age of sail, the town flourished with industries like homeishu production, a traditional herbal liquor. Part of Setonaikai National Park, Tomonoura has also gained fame as a filming location for movies like The Wolverine and Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo on the Cliff.
